Dabbers' Den 2019 Rules

Eligibility to enter

The competition is open to businesses that started trading on or after the 1st January 2016 and which operate wholly or partly from an address in any of the following towns - Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach, Middlewich or Tarporley, in the UK. 

Entrants must be 18 years or over. 

The competition is not open to employees of Howard Worth, Poole Alcock LLP, Cheshire East Council and Natwest, or anyone else otherwise connected with the competition.

It is free to enter the competition. There is no limit upon the number of entries permitted per person.
The opening date for the competition is 1st August 2019.

The closing date for the competition is 12 noon on 1st November. Entries received after this time will not be considered.  The Promoters accept no obligation to consider entries which are received late owing to any reason, including but not limited to, postal delays or mail delivery problems relating to an ICT system.

Entries will be subject to a shortlisting process by the judges after the competition closing date. The shortlisting process will be to identify the entries which, in the view of the Judges, are most likely to meet the Judging Criteria set out below.  Successful Entrants will be invited to attend a judging interview in Nantwich in November 2019 – Date and time – TBC.

Entries will only be considered in the form of the application form which can be found on the competition website www.dabbersdencompetition.co.uk.  Completed application forms can be formally entered by emailing them to dawnbeschorner@howardworth.co.uk or by sending them by post to: “Dabbers' Den Competition”, Howard Worth, 3 Churchyardside, Nantwich, Cheshire, CW5 5DE.


By entering the competition the Entrants agree:

  • to be bound by the terms and conditions;
  • that their full name and the name of their business may be released if they win a prize;
  • that should they win a prize, their name, likeness and name of their business may be used by the Promoters future promotional purposes.

Data Protection

Entrants must supply to the Promoters their full name, postal address, email address and daytime telephone number.  Subject to the provisos above, the Promoters will only ever use entrant’s personal details for the purposes of administering this competition and will not publish them to anyone else without prior permission.  All information including application forms relating to the Entrant which are held by the Promoter will be destroyed by 31st December 2019.

Judging Criteria

The winning entry will be the one that in the judges’ opinion is the best proposal for a new business or one that has been trading less than 3 years (i.e. one which has not commenced trading before 1st January 2016) and which will operate wholly or partly from an address in any of the following towns - Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach, Middlewich or Tarporley, in the UK.

The judges’ decision as to the winner is final and no correspondence relating to the competition will be entered into by the Promoters.


The prize is:

  • A gift of £3,000 payable to the winner within 30 days;
  • An offer of accountancy mentoring for a maximum period of 12 months by Howard Worth; and
  • An offer of legal mentoring for a maximum period of a 12 months by Poole Alcock LLP.

No element of the prize is transferable. There is no cash alternative to the prize. Full details of the mentoring element of the prize package to be confirmed with the winner. If the winner of the prize does not accept any element of the prize by 31 December 2019, that element of the prize will be withdrawn.  In those circumstances, the Promoters reserve the right to offer any element of the prize to a runner up, or to re-offer the prize in any future competition.

The Promoters reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions or to cancel, alter or amend the competition or the prize at any stage, if deemed necessary in their unfettered opinion, or if circumstances arise outside their control.

Legal statements

The Promoters of this event are Howard Worth, Poole Alcock LLP and Cheshire East Council and Natwest. The Promoters’ address for correspondence is : “Dabbers' Den Competition”,  Howard Worth, 3 Churchyardside, Nantwich, Cheshire, CW5 5DE.

The competition is subject to the laws of England and Wales.

No liability is accepted by the Promoters for any claim, damage, liability, loss (including consequential loss) or expense of any kind arising directly or indirectly out of the competition, or occurring to the winner arising from his or her acceptance of the Prize.  

The Organisers wish to make it clear that neither the "The Dabbers' Den" Competition, nor its Organisers, have any involvement, connection or affiliation with the BBC or the BBC television programme, "Dragons Den".
